OSTEOPATHY

a unique whole-person approach
to help prevent illness and injury

Dominic Bourne

Dominic Bourne D.O, N.D, BSc Hons Osteopathic Medicine (U.K)

Having worked in the television industry in London for nearly ten years Dominic felt it was time he followed in his fathers footsteps into healthcare.

Being more interested in building health rather than treating disease he decided upon the study of Osteopathy, manual therapy that attempts to improve the body’s’ function to prevent injuries from recurring, rather than masking symptoms.

Dominic studied at the oldest Naturopathic College in Europe, the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) in London graduating in 2007,

and interned at the renowned Maidstone college of Classical Osteopathy.

He then moved to Singapore where he took up an associate position at the Osteopathic Treatment Centre working with Dr David Tio the first Singaporean Osteopath from whom he learned a great deal.

After eight great years in Singapore and now with 3 young children the family decided it was time to move on to somewhere more suited to the healthy life style they aspired to, and so moved to beautiful New Zealand.

Having worked as a contractor for the past 3 years it was finally time to build a clinic that would reflect his own Osteopathic principles and standards of service here in Hamilton

Dominic is very much looking forward to this new chapter in the family’s life.

Alastair Treacher

Alastair is a New Zealand trained osteopath with nearly ten years clinical experience. He brings a broad experience in Rehabilitation, Biomechanics, and the physiology of pain. As well as working in clinical practice, Alastair has spent five years teaching and mentoring trainee osteopaths at Unitec Institute of Technology.

Having spent four years working closely with sports teams and athletes he has a deep understanding of sports injury and rehabilitation. He has also spent a significant portion of his career managing patients who suffer with chronic, musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain.

Alastair focuses on applying a patient-centred approach to treatment that utilizes a combination of manual and movement therapy. Being able to tailor each treatment to match the specific needs of each patient helps establish the most efficient pathway to recovery possible.

“Making people feel better with hands on treatment and rehabilitation is really rewarding, but for me nothing beats the satisfaction working through complex cases with patients and helping them understand what is occurring and how to manage it.”

Amanda Cook

I have experience working with a range of different types of problems and people.

This range includes hypersensitive people as well as those experiencing both acute and chronic pain.

I love understanding what is happening with the body and welcome any questions you may have.

I try to be thorough and gentle in my treatments and use a wide range of techniques.

Treatment choice is a shared decision with patients, and I will work with you to find the best management options for your situation.

Hands-on care

If you’ve never been to an Osteopath before, you may wonder what to expect. Let's have a closer look.

Consultation

Your Osteopath will talk with you about your medical history. In addition, you will be asked about your home, work and family life.

Exam

The Osteopath will perform a complete physical exam, including a check of your posture, spine, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. If necessary, tests will be ordered.

Diagnosis

The Osteopath will consider the results of the interview and exam to determine what may be causing your symptoms.

Treatment

The Osteopath will suggest a treatment plan. DOs practice according to the latest science and technology, but also consider options to complement pharmaceuticals and surgery. Your treatment plan may also include Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), a hands-on treatment DOs use to diagnose illness and injury and encourage your body’s natural tendency toward self-healing.
